DESSIE CRISP
Whitmire –Dessie Crisp, age 88, of 310 Duckett Street and widow of the Rev. Oscar Crisp died Friday, May 2, 2008 in the Newberry Memorial Hospital. She was born in Graham County, NC and was the daughter of the late John M. and Minnie McCrackin Crisp. Mrs. Crisp was a retired employee of Whitten Center and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Harold M. Crisp of Greenwood and a daughter, Linda Sutherland of Whitmire; 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, James William Crisp. Funeral service were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Whitmire Cemetery. LOUISE HARMON
INMAN – Nettie Louise Harmon, 88, formerly of 94 North Main Street, passed away at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home of Inman on Thursday, May 1, 2008. She was the widow of Fred Harmon. Mrs. Harmon was first married to the late John Gregory. Mrs. Harmon was a native of Spartanburg County and a daughter of the late Gamaliel and Candace Hewitt McAbee. She was retired from Magnolia Manor of Inman and a member of Inman First Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Ertzberger of Inman; a son, Wallace Gregory of Inman; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Eggers Funeral Chapel officiated by the Rev. Heyward Calvert and Mr. Lewis R. Henderson. Interment was in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Steve McAbee, Everette McAbee, Joe Vaughn, Charles Henderson, Dale Lyles, Junior Pittman, Buck Henderson, and Brent Thomas. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 157 S. MARILYN K. MANGUM
SPARTANBURG – On April 26, 2008, beloved wife and mother, Marilyn Katherine Mangum, 78, of Spartanburg passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Mangum was born on Sept. 30, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Mi. She was educated at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, where she earned a degree in education. Mrs. Mangum retired as an executive assistant from Boiler Tubes in Wellford. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She had a passion for life, a deep love for family especially her grandchildren, whom she showered with great affection and love. Her family will miss her great sense of humor and compassionate spirit. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Leonard J. Mangum of Spartanburg; sons, Mark A. Mangum, Adam A. Mangum, Paul A. Mangum, Andrew P. Mangum and his wife, Jennifer; a daughter, Elizabeth B. Manzolillo of Mount Airy, Md. and her husband, Charles; her beloved grandchildren, Amy C. Manzolillo, James Austin Mangum and Benjamin Perry Mangum. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on April 30, 2008 at Eggers Funeral Chapel of Boiling Springs. SEAY CHESNEE – Joyce Petty Seay, 81, of 4195 Old Furnace Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Clyde W. Seay and a daughter of the late Talmadge “TT” Petty and Mary Lee Easler Petty. She was the owner of Seay’s Produce and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and the Amanda Page Sunday School Class. She is survived by seven daughters, Judy Elder and her husband James of Chesnee, Cathy Childers and her husband Larry of Chesnee, Dedra Lee and her husband Michael of Pauline, Lisa Witzel and her husband William of Spartanburg, Jane Tate and her husband Richard of Bowling Green, Ky., Tammy Ward and her husband Randy of Rutherfordton, N.C., Candace Mabry and her husband Ben of Spartanburg; two sisters, Merle Kimbrell (Pete) of Spartanburg and Juanita Seay (Baylis) of Boiling Springs. Twenty grandchildren, Paul H. Bishop Jr., Beth Mossburg, Kimberly Parrish, Jeffery Elder, Amy Biggerstaff, James Aaron Elder, Jeremy Childers, Kerry Henderson, Daniel Lee, Savannah Lee, Justin Quinn, Nicholas Witzel, Travis Bradey, Jonathan Bradey, Erica McKelvey, Lindsey Ward, Frankie Mabry, Mikayla Seay, McKenzie Seay, and Cole Seay. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one son, Todd Kirby Seay, and two daughters, Brenda Bishop and Betsy Seay; two brothers Marvin “Bill” Petty and Charles Petty. Visitation was held from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Quidley and Charlie Glover officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. DONALD WATSON
ENOREE – Donald Moore Watson, 79, of 1750 Rocky Ridge Road, died Monday, April 28, 2008 after a long illness. A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Glover and Clorese Lamb Watson, the husband of Ruth Chaney Watson for over sixty years, a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon, Custodian and Sunday School Clerk he was a member of the Enoree Masonic Lodge, a brick mason for Pettit Construction for over thirty years, he was retired from Spartanburg County Parks and Recreation and was a former Eagle Scout. In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Dennie M. Watson and wife Renee of Enoree; three daughters, Sandra Simmons Pitman and husband, Bobby, of Roebuck, Sharon W. Burch and husband Kenny of Enoree, and Amy Williams and husband, Wesley of Enoree; one brother, Charles Watson and wife Barbara of Enoree, one sister Elizabeth Casey and husband Neil of Spartanburg, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Forest Hills Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Elton Hunter and Jimmy Skinner. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Simmons, Travis Watson, Ryland Burch, Darren Burch, L.D. Starnes, and Joe Vaughn. Memorial may be made to The Cedar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1650 Rocky Ridge Road, Enoree, SC 29335. The family was at the home.
