Citizens discuss establishing Pacolet River walking, riding trails

By Leon G. Russ
HOMETOWN-NEWS

More than 40 interested citizens turned out at Scrapbook Creations at noon on Tuesday, January 17,  for a grass roots discussion on establishing a Pacolet River and Walking Trail in the Clifton and Converse communities.
The group was led by local businessman Scott Macdonald and it heard from Eric Davis, Project Manager for the Spartanburg County Parks Department.
Those gathered are looking to establish trails along the Pacolet River in the old mill towns of Clifton and Converse that mirror the blueway that starts in Glendale at Lawson’s Fork Creek and will eventually be in Converse on the Pacolet River, connecting all areas that abut the Pacolet River.
The county terms this area the Pacolet River Corridor.
The hope is the trail will not only provide health benefits to those on the river and trails but also offer glimpses into the history of the region as well as showcase the natural beauty of the river and riverside and possibly provide an impetus for an economic revitalization.
