The YMCA of Greater Spartanburg’s Team Lean Community Weight Loss Competition wrapped up with a finale at the Pine Street YMCA that recognized individual and team weight loss leaders.
The 10-week program saw more than 90 individuals and 29 four-member teams sign up.
Angie Putman, Branch Director of the Middle Tyger YMCA, noted 61% of those who signed up completed the 10-week course.
Combined, the participants lost a total of 2,026 pounds.
Those with the highest percentage weight loss, individual and team, were awarded cash prizes. Jo Ann White took top honors among women by losing 10.7% while Greg Farmer topped the men’s category by losing 13.8%
Farmer explained he works as a physical therapist and he wanted to be a good example for his patients. He lost 32 pounds and noted he did it for “my health and my family. I have two daughters and I want to be healthy for them.”
