Council members raise questions about spending

The growing dissention between Spartanburg County Council and the Spartanburg Parks Commission is expected to come to a head this week during a special council meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
The agenda for the meeting released just before press time Monday lists an item under the council’s Livability Committee to pass first reading of an ordinance placing the parks special purpose tax district under the authority of the county administration.
The expected showdown started during a called Livability Committee meeting April 20 during which councilmen David Britt and Roger Nutt questioned Spartanburg Parks Commission Executive Director Jeff Caton about the commission’s spending practices and priorities and about the commission’s plans to become more independent.
