HOMETOWN NEWS
While everyone seemingly in attendance at the Spartanburg City Council meeting held in the County Council Chambers in the County Admin building on Monday, April 25, were focused on the first reading of a smoking ban that passed, another important item was voted on.
Council voted unanimously to sell the DuPre House to the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine for $1.
The historic house now passes to the college, which will determine how to best use the structure as part of its campus.
Wallace Duncan DuPre Sr., who died in 1975, previously owned the home.
After his death the home passed to Wallace DuPre Jr. and several of his cousins.
They in turn sold the house and the property on North Church Street to Renaissance Park Inc. in 1998.
The city was a part of that agreement that saw the DuPre House relocated to its present location on Howard Street.
The city stabilized the foundation of the home but no other upgrades were made.
