Spartanburg City Council took little time in breezing through the second reading of a smoking ban ordinance, passing it 6-1 during it’s regular council meeting on Monday at City Hall.
Only Councilwoman Linda Dogan was opposed to the measure that will ban smoking in bars, restaurants, retail shops, offices and most other commercial places having public access.
These establishments would also be required to be smoke free within a minimum of 15 feet of their entrances and exits
Kevin Moore, owner of Delaney’s Irish Pub on Morgan Square is concerned with where he can put his customers that smoke.
With the ordinance stating a smoking area must be 15 feet from the doorway his lament is there isn’t 15 feet of sidewalk from his front door to the street.
He stated, “We sent emails (to city leaders) and haven’t heard back. We need answers as to how we can proceed. We feel we haven’t been given an option.”
