Speed was the single factor involved in the Cleveland Park train crash March 19, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger reported Monday.
Accompanied by two experts who helped reconstruct what happened that day and surrounded by all members of the county council, Clevenger said the tedious two-month investigation had produced conclusive results about the cause of the crash.
Gary Wolf, president of TUV Rail Sciences Inc., said inspections of the train itself and track revealed no mechanical defects and that the main causal factor for the crash was operator error.
“The bottom line of this accident is train over speed,” Wolf said.
