It was another somber Memorial Day ceremony at Veteran’s Pointe in Duncan Park on Sunday, May 29, as veterans from all branches of America’s Armed Forces were joined by family members and civilians who remembered those who gave all for our freedoms.
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9539 hosted the ceremony that began with the reading of the names of the 650 area fallen that are engraved upon the memorial wall at Veteran’s Pointe.
The names are many, which is why the reading was halted after half an hour as the main ceremony kicked off. The reading concluded during the ceremony.
Dave Morehead, VFW Post 9539 Commander, welcomed the nearly 300 veterans, family members and civilians attending and introduced Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers.
Blue Star mothers have children currently serving in the U.S. military while Gold Star Mothers are those who have seen their child, or in some cases children, pay the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
