“Click it or ticket” was the resounding message that came from a City of Spartanburg news conference at the intersection of South Pine Street and Forest Avenue on Wednesday, June 8.
Spartanburg Mayor Pro-Tem Renee Cariveau, backed by Spartanburg Public Safety officers, announced the city’s new seat belt initiative in an attempt to increase the use of seat belts within the city limits.
Pointing to the sign over her shoulder, Cariveau said the city would post quarterly seat belt usage numbers and it would use those numbers to compare the city’s seat belt usage to the state and national numbers on seat belt usage.
Cariveau stated the city hopes to see the seat belt usage numbers increase significantly in a short period of time through the new seat belt awareness campaign.
She added the enforcement of seat belt usage is for “the health and safety of our community and our citizenry because we know that seat belt usage saves lives.”
Cariveau then noted, “We are going to increase educational awareness of seat belt safety and we’re also going to have an aggressive enforcement effort.”
