City council awards $45K to attract downtown businesses

Spartanburg City Council met on Monday and took action to stimulate the economic revitalization of the downtown area when they voted 6-0 to approve distributing $45,000 in funding to entice four restaurants to locate downtown.
Patty Bock, economic development director for the city, explained to council where the funds would go and what was expected from the businesses is return.
She identified three of the four businesses that will locate downtown.
The first is Cribb’s Kitchen on Main, owned by William Cribb, Raj Patel and Ryan Traywick.  Their establishment is going in the vacant 5,000-square-foot space that was formerly the Tap Room at 226 W. Main St.  Cribb’s Kitchen will receive $15,000.
Spice of Life restaurant will be in the building last occupied by Rock Water Tavern at 100 Wood Row. Jeff Wardat is opening Spice of Life and will get $10,000.
Refuel Wine Bar and Retail LLC at 129 N. Spring Street, owned by Dorothy Monroe would receive $5,000.
