The City of Spartanburg held a drop - in informational meeting on Tuesday, July 5 in the Main Library’s Hoechst-Celanese Room. The meeting was in regards to plans to install a dog park in the city - owned vacant parcel across the street from the Clock Tower.
More than 50 concerned citizens, for and against, jammed into the small room to hear initial plans for the park.
Spartanburg Assistant City Manager Chris Story explained the park would come at a cost of $15,000. He noted there “would be no change to the park other than installing a chain link fence and two gates.”
Beautification work to the park would also be included but he said he hoped to raise the funds from private contributors. He pointed out the site is a grassy area and already tree - lined.
When asked if the city had looked at any other sites for the Dog Park, Story said the site “is the only one that’s been suggested to us and it’s city owned so there’s no cost in acquiring the land.”
