Rudy Mancke holding up an Eastern Box turtle that he found injured while leading a tour of the newly revitalized Price House nature trail. He said there was a puncture wound that looked to be from a feline tooth making him believe it was attacked by a cat. The turtle was still very much alive and Neosporin was applied to kill infection.
The Historic Price House on 1200 Oak View Farms Rd in Woodruff had a special visitor Saturday morning, August 28 to kick off their newly refurbished nature trail and one who knew more about the flora and fauna in just the single square foot surrounding the trail sign than quite possibly anyone else in the state.
Anyone familiar with famed naturalist Rudy Mancke and his 20 years of hosting ETV’s NatureScene will know of his near encyclopedic knowledge of all things natural and also recall that in a typical half hour show he usually only made it a couple hundred yards down the trail.
