It’s All Greek to Me

By Leon G. Russ
HOMETOWN NEWS

The 18th Annual Spartanburg Greek Festival once again offered a wide variety of foods, pastries, dancing and music for Upstate residents over the weekend.
The musical group A Night in Athens played traditional Greek music while youth dancers from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church entertained the large crowds during the four-day festival that ended Sunday.
Festivalgoers also had the opportunity to tour the church.
The Spartanburg Children’s Shelter once again hosted the children’s site that offered rides, face painting and events for children.
There were also numerous hand carved wooden items, imported Greek jewelry, and icons and books were available for purchase in the church’s bookstore.
While all the above would be enough to draw in nearly anyone, as always, it seemed the Greek food, especially the pastries were the main draw.

For the rest of the story, read this week’s Spartanburg County News.

These young men kicked up their heels while performing Greek dances for the crowd at the Greek Festival on Saturday, September 24.
