Wofford Wins First SoCon Championship
Stan Olenik, For Hometown News

The Wofford Terriers are the champions of the Southern Conference. The Terriers defeated Appalachian State 56-51 on Monday night in Charlotte to win the school’s first ever trip to the NCAA basketball tournament.

Wofford finished the regular season with 26 wins for a new school record and their first ever-regular season Southern Conference and Tournament titles.
“I’ve waited for them to blink and it has never happened,” said Terrier head coach Mike Young. “These are good players and tough guys,” said the coach after cutting down the net at the Time-Warner Cable Arena.

Wofford defeated UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina to set up the championship match-up with Appalachian State.

The Terriers jumped on the Mountaineers early in the game. Cameron Rundles scored 12 points and Noah Dahlman scored six points to help the Terriers take a quick lead.
“We talk about making the first punch,” said Dahlman. “We took it to them at the start and set the tone. They never recovered from it,” he said.
