Seven local athletes and one coach will represent the area at a pair of South Carolina Soccer Coaches Association all-star events this summer.
Athletes from Dorman, Gaffney and Woodruff will participate in the events, while Byrnes boys head coach Matt Brophy will direct an all-star squad.
Dorman forward Daisy Walker has been selected to participate in the Clash of the Carolinas, a match featuring the top South Carolina players taking on their counterparts from North Carolina. The game will be played at noon on July 9, 2010 at Daniel Island’s Blackbaud Stadium.
The North-South All-Star matches will be played at Wofford’s Snyder Field on June 19 beginning at noon. The games will see the top players from the Upper State square off against those from the Lower State.
Five local players will participate in the girls’ contest. Dorman midfielder Aubrey Danielson and forward Kim Kesler will play in the match, along with Gaffney’s Rebecca LeMaster. Woodruff midfielder Paige Sumner and defender Shaquana West were also chosen to the squad.
Dorman has the lone local boys’ representative on either team, as Rodrigo Reyes will suit up for the North All-Stars.
Brophy will serve as the head coach for the North boys squad, which leads the all-time series 14-5-2.
