Candidates have started to file for the City of Greer’s Nov. 6 election.
According to City Clerk Tammela Duncan, as of yesterday afternoon four candidates have filed to appear on the ballot since the process opened Monday.The race for mayor is presently the only challenged position on the ballot.
Political newcomer Charles Lindsey and incumbent Mayor Rick Danner have both filed for the race to lead the city.
City Council incumbents Jay Arrowood and Wryley Bettis will seek re-election to represent their respective districts.
Arrowood represents council district one and is seeking his second term. District one is spread across both Spartanburg County and Greenville County from Gap Creek Rd. to Buncombe Rd. It includes neighborhoods along Brushy Creek Rd., Sunnydale, neighborhoods along the north side of Wade Hampton Blvd. from Main St. east and the south side of Wade Hampton starting at Biblebrook Dr.
Bettis is seeking his third consecutive term representing district five. This district includes most of the old downtown neighborhood west of Line St. as well as King Acres and Orchard Meadows.
Senior council member Sandra Anderson has yet to announce her intentions of possibly seeking a fifth term representing district three. District three includes the Victor community, Maplewood, Harvey Rd. and Pleasant Grove.
CPW Commissioner Gene Gibson last week announced his intent to seek re-election but has yet to file. The CPW seat is a six-year at-large position elected citywide.
The filing fee for council or CPW candidacy is $70. The filing fee for the Mayor’s race is $125.

Filing for the city election closes at noon on Wednesday, August 15.
