Landrum Attorney Arrested
for Going 140 mph on I-85

HOMETOWN NEWS

A Landrum attorney with a history of run-ins with law enforcement was arrested for traveling 140 mph on I-85 around 12:25 p.m. on March 11, according to a Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

IN-lanr.jpg: Michael James Sarratt, 32, of 201 Glendylon Dr., Landrum, was arrested after Chief Deputy Billy Parris initiated a traffic stop when Sarratt was clocked going 140 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-85 northbound.

Deputy Phillip Chappell assisted with the stop and later transported Sarratt to the Spartanburg County Detention Facility for booking on reckless driving charges. Sarratt’s 1989 Porsche was released and towed by McCarter’s Towing at the owners request.

Sarratt has a history of run-ins with the law including a 1999 arrest for criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and assault and battery with intent to kill. Sheriff’s deputies arrested him after an attack on his common-law wife in which Sarratt tried to run her car off the road with his vehicle before eventually colliding with her car.

According to the department’s incident report filed in 1999, after Sarratt collided with the victim’s car he exited his vehicle with a handgun and began firing at her and another occupant in her car. Neither victim was injured and warrants were later obtained against Sarratt on the listed charges.

Following this most recent arrest, Sarratt was released from jail on bond. A check with the South Carolina Bar Association revealed no record of disciplinary action taken against Sarratt for the 1999 charges and nothing pending following the reckless driving charge last week.
