Byrnes junior Erin Frost is taking advantage of being crowned Miss Middle Tyger Teen this year to encourage her fellow teens to become more involved in community volunteerism as part of a service project that she hopes will help her secure the Miss Teen South Carolina crown later this summer.

MT 4-23.jpg: Frost helped to collect more than 500 cans of food from fellow students in recent weeks and was joined by three young ladies she is mentoring when she dropped the donated goods by the food pantry of the Middle Tyger Community Center last week. Hailey Hughes, Bayleigh Kind and Emma Kate Gillespie are Frost’s Palmetto Princesses and are learning from Frost what it means to be involved in community service. Frost is a veritable whirlwind of industriousness as she is actively involved in numerous student activities. She is heavily involved with Leadership Byrnes and has tapped her fellow students, especially her friend Jennifer Kelly, to help make the Middle Tyger area a better place. Frost said she hopes her example and encouragement will inspire other young people to become active in community service. Her theme as part of the upcoming Miss Teen South Carolina pageant is teen volunteerism. She said that along with her princesses she would like to see other teens take a more active role in bettering their community. “I’m trying to teach them to get more involved,” she said. Frost is involved in many other service activities and has spent 150 hours so far on these efforts.
