Teen missing

Search underway for 15-year-old

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has received a report that a Blacksburg teenager has run away from home and is still missing.

The mother of Laura Pate, 15, told a deputy her daughter left their Tucker Road residence between 11 p.m. on April 4 and 6:50 a.m. on April 5.
Connie Jean Smack said in the report filed April 4 that her daughter sneaked out of her bedroom window without permission.

Smack described her daughter, who is a 10th-grader at Blacksburg High School, as weighing 110 pounds with brown eyes and red hair with blonde highlights.

“Anyone who has seen her is asked to call me at 425-3057, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 487-2747 or the Blacksburg Police Department at 839-2331. I want her to know I love her, and I want her to come back home,” Smack said.

Flyers have been posted by family members and friends around Blacksburg in an effort to find the teenager.

The deputy’s report stated Laura Pate’s name has been added to the national list of missing people or NCIC.
