A man shot by a Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy died five days later, and authorities have still not released details about the death of his wife that prompted the confrontation with officers.
Sheriff Steve Mueller said on April 13 deputies were dispatched about 11:30 p.m. with emergency medical service units to the residence of Danny Claude Thomas, 58, at 1085 Caldwell Road, east of Blacksburg near the York County line.
“The first Sheriff’s Department unit arrived at 11:51 p.m. with a back-up unit arriving at 11:53 p.m. The first officer on scene entered the residence and observed a female who appeared to be deceased several days on a couch,” Mueller said.
Several family members were also in the residence.
