Educators inspired by students, colleagues

Teachers at Blacksburg’s four schools have been recognized for dedication to their students.
Dr. Ed Taylor, school superintendent, said the honor is significant.
“It’s one of the most special things for a teacher when their peers select them ‘teacher of the year.’ It’s for outstanding service to the children of Cherokee County,” Taylor said at a recent meeting of the board of trustees when all school winners were recognized. He also thanked Lynn Sisk, music teacher at Blacksburg High School, who played the harp during a reception for the honorees.
Lisa Blanton, a teacher at Grassy Pond Elementary, took the district title, and Blacksburg’s top teachers for each school were Sarah Ligon, Courtney Ross, Andrew Chisholm and Sherri Beam.
Each offered reflections and thoughts about their careers.
