Jimmy Carter, family drop in
BY JANET S. SPENCER
HOMETOWN NEWS
Visitors to the Kings Mountain National Military Park come and go, seeking a history tutorial or brief respite from traveling along nearby I-85 not far from Blacksburg.
Their number may depend on the time of year, the weather if camping at local facilities is a goal or travel schedules, but a pass through Cherokee County into North Carolina gave one prospective visitor reason to pause.
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter observed the exit sign to the park recently and took more than a little notice.
Park Superintendent Erin Broadbent said Carter, his wife and their son Chip were en route to Pennsylvania for an annual family visit prior to the Memorial Day weekend.
