A Cherokee County School District employee was charged last week with shoplifting less than $1,000 in merchandise from a Spartanburg department store.
School officials said Shelia Whitley Lemmonds, 61, who was administrative assistant to Superintendent Ed Taylor and the Cherokee County School Board, is expected to take retirement from her position.
Lemmonds was arrested about 11:30 a.m. on June 22 at Belk in WestGate Mall.
An incident report by Spartanburg Public Safety stated the store’s loss prevention officer for Belk called police because he had a woman who had been under surveillance in custody.
The report identified the woman as Lemmonds whose address is 818 Green River Road, Gaffney.
The policeman said in his report that the loss prevention officer described seeing Lemmonds select several items from racks in the accessories department and place them in a yellow bag.
