Mandated re-examination of the Cherokee County Council’s district lines is underway with officials hoping to be ahead of the game in preparation for next year’s elections.
Blacksburg’s District 7 represented by Tracy McDaniel will not likely be impacted.
Bobby Bowers, chief statistician with the state Budget and Control Board who helped with the county implementing its 911 emergency system, has met twice with the Council to offer guidance in re-visiting how the number of residents in each district compare.
“Bobby’s expertise in this area is second to none,” said Interim County Administrator Ben Clary who explained why Bowers was called in to assist.
Bowers presented a plan to the Council last month that resulted in a workshop session for members to take a closer look at their boundary lines.
