Scott Patterson with the Blacksburg Business Association recently asked the Town Council to consider making improvements to sidewalks along the Iron City’s main street.
Patterson said he was hopeful the town’s hospitality tax might be used to make the upgrades he predicted would ensure more people would be inclined to come to the area.
Some sections of the sidewalks are broken.
“If you want to be creative, you can start further up the street from the immediate downtown area and go all the way to the gazebo,” Patterson said, making a pitch for the repair and replacement of some sections of sidewalks. “If you just take the section from the First Baptist Church to the red light, it would be a start.”
Patterson prefaced his suggestion from the BBA by asking how much money the town realizes from the hospitality tax annually.
Town Administrator estimated the amount to be about $100,000.
