The Blacksburg Council has re-considered an option allowing its police officers to patrol a recently annexed eight-mile stretch of I-85, deciding the advantages support the effort and again giving the proposal a green light.
Questions surfaced after the idea gained approval by the Council a few months ago, and clarifications were needed regarding whether the local department would investigate traffic accidents, a duty the state Highway Patrol maintains.
Confirmation that troopers will continue to work the accidents, along with the receipt of information on how the Town of Duncan has increased its coffers, resulted in the Council re-affirming its intent last week to send officers onto I-85 to issue citations to traffic offenders.
The decision also means the town can benefit from any drug seizures through cases made by its department.
