The Boiling Springs Business Association was called to order in regular session on May 14 by President Mike Brady with 19 members present. A representative from Project Encore, Erica Walker, spoke to the group about the information - gathering efforts ongoing to find out what baby-boomers and seniors want and need to have a secure future in the county. In the next order of business, membership committee chairman Eric Hayler informed members of scheduled meetings of focus groups that will concentrate on boosting membership by finding out what members want in an association through an exchange of ideas. Hayler also encouraged everyone to promote the business association and bring new members in. The following companies were welcomed as new members: KRB Fabrics Inc., Carolina Home Staging and Redesign, and Preserve-A-Rose.
President Brady stated that the treasury contained $13, 730.72 which was up from $11, 128.73 at the same time last year. Brady informed members that he had learned that $13.28 million in federal stimulus funds had been received to aid in the Highway 9 widening project, update traffic signals, and repave some county roads. In addition, $1.1 million had been appropriated for the repaving of Old Furnace Road and $802,233.00 for repaving of 1.6 miles of Valley Falls Road.
Brady next stated that the two annual scholarships would be awarded at Boiling Springs High School awards night on May 26, 2009. Brady also stated that the board of directors had approved having a booth at the Fall-in-the-Park event in October and that members would be welcome to have information about their business there.
Brady next announced tentatively that humorist Elvin “Bud” Moon would provide the entertainment at this year’s Thanksgiving banquet.
In the last order of business, Brady announced that a donation of $250.00 had been approved for the Upstate Family Resource Center where meeting rooms are provided for the association at no charge.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on June 11, 2009, in the library room of the Upstate Family Resource Center.
