Operation nets $215k cash, more than 8 kilos of drugs

Interstate interdiction effort brings together 22 agencies from SC, NC

HOMETOWN NEWS

The door prize for the most novel means of concealing marijuana during this year’s weeklong Operation Rolling Thunder drug interdiction effort went to a Pennsylvania man who was found on I-85 with 29 marijuana-laced Rice Crispy treats that he said were intended for a sick aunt.
In a news conference announcing the results of the operation, Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright praised the 72 officers from 22 agencies from North and South Carolina who braved ferocious heat to make the interstates safer and interrupt the flow of illegal drugs through the Upstate.
The sheriff said the effort netted $215,724 in seized currency and more than eight kilos of marijuana and cocaine.
“We got this trash off of our streets,” he said. “Our numbers were a little bit lower than in the past, but I’m proud of that because that means they’re staying out of Spartanburg County.”
