The Boiling Springs Area Council met in regular monthly session at the Boiling Springs Library on November 12 with six members present.
Guest speaker Laura Ringo, executive director of Partners for Active Living, informed the council that her organization is currently seeking input on future infrastructure as it relates to healthy lifestyles such as hiking and biking trails and other recreational activities. Ringo said she also seeks feedback on policy development regarding healthy living and proper nutrition and habits in the county. She said one effort being undertaken is to place healthy food and snacks in all the county parks. Ringo also spoke about a future vision to bring computerized bicycle stations to the county where a person could go, swipe a membership card to check out a bike, and then return to that location or another station. Under economic development, it was noted that O’Reilly’s Auto Parts is currently building a store in Boiling Springs.
Next, Area Councils coordinator Jim Thompson offered information about a tourism strategic plan conference being hosted by Spartanburg County Council on November 17 and 18, 2009. The event will be round table discussions relating to places of interest to tourists. Some topics include art and music, heritage, shopping and dining, education, sports and recreation, nature and agriculture, and a small town/unincorporated forum.
