David Stephens, Hometown News On Feb. 8, District Two school board chairperson Connie Smith convened the trustees in monthly session with Superintendent Dr. Scott Mercer and all trustees except Craig Sims present.
Following approval of the agenda and January minutes Public Affairs Director Rhonda Henderson presented several awards including Patriot Pen essay winners, an athletic recognition, and the superintendent’s writing competition winners.
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Dr. Quincie Moore, then presented several informational items. Moore advised of a recent visit to the district high schools by a technical assistance team. The team emphasized seven priorities of high schools that work efficiently, including rigor, leadership, data, engagement, guidance, family and community. Moore next announced that pre-school registration would take place at all District Two elementary schools on March 3, and the information had been sent to homes in English and Spanish.
Dr. Moore then announced that for the 12th consecutive year an anonymous donor had given a dictionary to every third-grader in the district, and thank you notes will be sent to the donor.
