Professional pet sitter has tails to tell

Pot-Bellied Pigs to Llama Loogies

By Theron Willis
HOMETOWN NEWS

Melissa Mysch takes pet sitting seriously and the name of her company The Zoo Crew is not an exaggerative title because she has been the caretaker of animals that most people will only see at a zoo exhibit. But whether it’s a wily old lion or a common household cat or dog she loves taking care of animals and promoting their proper care and treatment.
In her wide variety of experience of taking care of all different types of the earth’s creatures she has dealt with some animals with a mind of their own, sometimes with unsavory consequences.
“I used to watch these two llamas all the time and one of them had a real attitude,” Mysch relates. “One day when I was feeding them he was nowhere around which was odd because he usually bullied the other one to eat first.”
Little did she know that the llama was waiting to catch her off guard.
“While I was feeding the other one,  he walked around the corner, looked me dead in the eye and spit a giant loogie that covered the entire side of my face,” said Mysch with a grimace.
Mysh is a huge advocate of spaying and neutering pets because of the huge number of cats and dogs that are put to sleep every year. She also related that a fixed cat will run off other unsprayed or unneutered cats.
Mysch’s own home with her two daughters Kayla and Ericha is an animal menagerie in its own right with cats, dogs, chickens, goats, and a pet pig named Suey who loves popcorn, sits on command, and rolls to the side when told to -  but can’t roll completely over because of its girth.
The Zoo Crew serves the Greater Spartanburg and southeast Greenville area and can take care of farm animals, exotic animals, and regular domestic creatures. She also does house cleaning and yard sanitization. For more info go to her website thezoocrewsc.com or call her at 864-504-8179.
