On June 28, 2011, the School District Two Board of Trustees approved the 2012 budget, which at just over $64 million dollars was a 4.7 percent increase from last year. School Superintendent Dr. Scott Mercer was a key player in the construction of that budget as presented to the board and spoke with Hometown News about that budget and how it will impact the district.
Dr. Mercer said, “This is a good budget that just got better with the overriding of the Governor’s vetoes concerning education so our projected revenue will be there. We are pleased to be able to eliminate furloughs, restore salaries to our working retirees, and provide salary step increases to many deserving personnel. Again, we were able to construct this budget with no tax increase. We are about in the same shape as the past year although we were able to restore some cuts and our fund balance remains about the same. We will remain cautious.”
