Chesnee to celebrate centennial

By David Stephens
Hometown News
According to a history of the first 50 years of Chesnee published in 1961 and written by Chesnee resident Helen Hicks Ezell, the town was given their charter on March 7, 1911. Currently, a celebration in September 2011 is being organized to celebrate the town’s centennial birthday.
Co-organizer Dennis Harris said, “We actually received the go-ahead to do this too late to do it on the actual anniversary, but we have a group of great volunteers working together to make the celebration a memorable one and befitting what the citizens deserve.”
Volunteer co-organizer Clint Button said, “Chesnee is really a family town and we want to put on a family type celebration with something for everyone.”
