The South Carolina Search and Rescue Dog Association (SCSARDA) is a team of professionals who dedicate their time and resources to search for lost and missing persons using specially trained search K-9s. SCSARDA is a non-profit organization whose non-paid members believe in family values, and who maintain standards of excellence with on-going training and community relations.
In the Upstate the husband and wife team of Misha and Chuck Marshall are active and dedicated to the SCSARDA mission and spoke with Hometown News about the work of the group.
Misha Marshall said, “We are a non-profit and there is no fee for services. All our members are volunteers and pay their own expenses out of pocket. There is a big time and monetary commitment for SCSARDA volunteers. Since we are not government affiliated it is hard to get funding. The American Kennel Club (AKC) is supportive of our organization and does provide some grant money. The rest comes from donations and fundraising.”
The Marshalls’ group of 16 members covers mainly the upstate, but also provides much mutual aid all over the state, in western North Carolina and in Georgia.
