City Council approves election management by County

By David Stephens
Hometown News

On September 12, 2011, Mayor Max Cash convened Chesnee City Council in monthly session with all council members present.
After August minutes were approved City Administrator Becki Hood reported that August revenues had been down, but that expenses had been down also. Hood announced that bids for the Streetscape II project would be opened on September 22 and a contract awarded. Hood then stated that funds were now available and that repairs and improvements to sidewalks along Highway 11 inside the city limits were going to be done.
Becki Hood next stated that all agreements with CSX railroad were now in place and that the completion of the Manning Street sidewalk would occur soon.
Next, Clint Button, representing Chesnee Classic Cycles, requested hospitality tax funding for the annual Kops Kids Toy Run to be held on November 20, 2011, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Council approved funding in the amount of $3000.00 dollars by a 4-1 vote.
Chesnee sewer plant manager Jeff Bailey then informed council that a letter had been received from the state asking about needed repairs to one of the sewer plant clarifiers. Council directed Bailey to reply that grant funding was being researched and accommodations in the next budget would be made if necessary to accomplish the repairs.
City Administrator then Becki Hood stated that Spartanburg County had agreed to assume the management of Chesnee elections and presented a city ordinance giving that authority to the county. The first reading of the ordinance was unanimously approved.
Mayor Cash then presented an example of a half page ad in the Spartanburg County visitor’s guide that was approved by council.
