When 16-year-old Chesnee High School junior Gracin Watson decided she wanted to learn how to fly planes, she had to choose between a traveling cheerleading squad or take flying lessons over the summer. Watson chose the lessons and now has recently successfully completed her first solo flight after only a little over 7 hour’s instruction.
Gracin Watson said, “My dad has his pilot’s license and I had flown with him many times. I decided I wanted to be able to fly too.”
Jeff Watson said, “When Gracin said she wanted to learn how to fly I knew exactly who to take her to. Gracin is learning from the same flight instructor, Lee Ore, and flying in the same plane I learned in when I took lessons.”
“I really enjoy the thrill of flying and being in the sky,” Gracin stated. “ I love seeing the sights and getting a whole different perspective on things from up there. One thing I have to concentrate on is that when it gets bumpy I tend to tense up and “squeeze” the controls too hard, but I am working on that. The landing is probably the most challenging part of it all because you really have to keep that nose up.”
