House Representative visits Chesnee City Council

By David Stephens
Hometown News

On the evening of October 10 Chesnee Mayor Max Cash convened city council in monthly session with all council members present.
After approval of the September minutes Chesnee resident Etta Mae Culbreth was given the floor for a public comment. Culbreth said that she “wants to thank the council for the work they are doing to help the Chesnee community” and offered to be of service in any way she can.
City Administrator Becki Hood then reported that the Streetscape project contract had been awarded and hopefully would start soon. Hood said the Manning Street sidewalk project was almost complete except for near the railroad and that approval from them was still pending. Hood also stated that the sidewalk was getting a “lot of use” and making it safer for people to walk. Hood next said that a team of auditors would be in next week working on the annual report and that monthly revenues had been up as well as expenses, which was typical this time of year.
The floor was then turned over to District 38 State House Representative Doug Brannon who provided an overview of the proposed redistricting that must be done after every 10-year census. Brannon used maps to illustrate the changes and stated that approvals of the plans were awaiting federal approval.
