The Chesnee High School Marching Eagle Band hosted their annual Eagle Classic band competition on October 17. Although the day was cool and damp that didn’t keep away the throngs of band supporters who filled Eagle Stadium to standing room only as they watched 21 high school bands from the South Carolina upstate and western North Carolina compete for honors.
Winners in the different classes were: Class I, Berea High School, and in Class II, Whitmire Community School. Blacksburg High School captured a superior rating in Class III, with Riverside High School winning second place in Class IV and Chapman High School receiving a superior rating in the same class. Class V was swept by Dorman High School taking best percussion, best color guard, best horn line, best pit crew, Gold Class winner and Overall Grand Champion honors. As the host band, Chesnee High School only performed in exhibition. After the competition, Eagle drum major Jennifer Curtis said, “Our band performed really well tonight considering they all worked very hard today on this event. I am proud of this band and we look forward to the upper state championships next week. On behalf of the band I also want to thank all the parents, band boosters, and sponsors who worked so hard to make the Classic a success.”
