Shopping carts filled with children pushed by men in blue rolled down the aisles of the Wal-Mart on Spartanburg’s eastside on Wednesday, December 16 as the 12th Shop with a Cop event once again made a Merry Christmas possible for families who had been touched by crime this past year.
Marla Drummond is a Victim Specialist with the City of Spartanburg’s Public Safety Department. She explained Shop with a Cop benefits those children who have been victims of crime or had been in a bad situation such as having both parents unemployed or been victims of a fire.
She noted often times the only interaction the child has had with law enforcement or fire department personnel brings up bad memories.
“This allows them to have a positive experience and hopefully they will see that they can come to us when they need to,” she said.
Shop with a Cop was held over two days and benefited more than 70 area children. Each child was allotted a $75 spending limit.
