Clooney’s visit will be the final stop of his “Whistle Stop Express to promote his film “Leatherheads”. The movie begins its national run April 4.
Clooney and Zellweger will receive the key to the city of Greenville at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The event is open to the public.
The publicity tour begins March 24 in Duluth, Minn., the fictional town where the 1920s football comedy was based.
It heads to Maysville, Ky., where Clooney’s father and aunt, Rosemary Clooney live. A private showing will be held in Maysville.
Salisbury, N.C., and Greenville will be the final two stops before Clooney heads back to Los Angeles for his own premiere March 28.
Clooney was featured on the cover of “Time” magazine recently as “The Last Movie Star.” Clooney’s stake in the film has taken on added significance since he plays the lead, directs and co-wrote the screenplay.
