David Stephens, Hometown News It is not precisely known how long students during their instruction time at H.B. Swofford Career Center have been building houses that are later auctioned to the public, but Tommy Campbell has been the director for 20 years and he said, “It has happened each one of those 20 years.”
Now the latest home is ready and will be put up for auction at 10:00 a.m. on May 22, 2010, on site at the Career Center on Highway 11, two miles east of Highway 9 between New Prospect and Fingerville, SC.
The house was built entirely by students studying various construction trades and skills and the construction was overseen by Tommy Page, a licensed builder and construction instructor at Swofford Career Center.
Page said, “The students take this project very seriously. They are learning valuable construction skills and they put a lot of pride into the house.
