Reserve Wellford Officer Arrested

Inman man charged with Assault and Battery

Reserve Welford Police Officer Larry E. Jackson Jr., 25, of 120 Casa Loma Street, Inman,  has been charged with assault and battery after he reportedly bullied and assaulted a man in what appears to be a property dispute. Jackson’s father, Larry E. Jackson Sr., 63, of 696 Sugar Ridge Road, Inman,  has also been charged with assault and battery in the same case.
According to police reports from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a disturbance call on 236 Casa Loma Street on April 25.  Upon arrival, the officer was met by a complainant who told the officer that he was trying to get to a piece of land that he owned when he came across a gate that blocked his access.  When the complainant opened the gate to drive through, two men  asked him what he was doing there and approached him.  The complainant responded to the two men that, “it was none of their business”.
The complainant then attempted to drive through the gate at which point the two men attempted to shut the gate on his car. After eventually driving down the right of way, the complainant got his car stuck in the mud.  While the complainant was trying to get his vehicle unstuck, four men approached him. According to the report,  one of the men, Larry E. Jackson Sr.,  asked the complainant what he was doing and another man, Larry E. Jackson Jr. ordered the complainant out of the vehicle, grabbing his finger and pushing him over the trunk of the vehicle.  Larry E. Jackson Jr. then asked the complainant for his ID, never informing the complainant that he was a police officer.  When the complainant got back in his vehicle, Larry E. Jackson Sr. grabbed a shovel off of the ground and drew back on him while pushing the car door into the complainant’s leg.
