In a brief meeting Monday night, Inman City Council voted to give the Spartanburg County Election Commission the authority to run Inman’s municipal elections.
The move is being considered by the county’s other municipalities as well, in the wake of new regulations regarding poll workers.
“In order for workers to be certified, the state is now requiring classes to be taken,” Mayor Bo Cantrell said. “If you wanted to become certified today, there are seven classes you’d have to take. These folks are volunteers. There’s no pay. We’ve talked to them, and they’re not interested in doing that.”
The Spartanburg County Election Commission will be in charge of advertising for open seats as well as for providing ballots, poll managers and election materials, as well as for counting and posting results and certifying the outcome of municipal races.
