FORT McCOY, Wis. – Members of the 174th Engineer Company, many of whose members are from Spartanburg, Greenville, Cherokee and Union Counties, are at Fort McCoy, Wis., preparing for a deployment to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
Since their arrival at Fort McCoy in November, Soldiers from 174th, an Army National Guard unit with its home station in Wellford, have participated in extensive training on equipment and procedures to learn skills they will need to be successful in their mission overseas.
Capt. Christopher Davis, the 174th’s commander, said, “We were mobilized as a group of individuals from different units and different towns. We are now one family. Our mission is to complete our tour of duty and then return home to our loved ones.”
