District Five Board considers moving students
Jed Blackwell, Hometown News

Students in one District 5 neighborhood might be headed to a different elementary school in the coming school year.

The District 5 School Board heard a report Monday night that proposed an attendance area change for the Brookside neighborhood.
Students who live in Brookside now attend Wellford Elementary School and advance to Berry Shoals Intermediate. All other students at Wellford advance to Beech Springs Intermediate.

Dr. Greg Wood, Assistant Superintendent for Operations and Administration for District 5, briefed the board on a proposal to rezone the neighborhood for attendance at River Ridge Elementary.

The District Five Fine Arts Center (pictured above) played host to Monday’s School Board meeting, the first event held in the center.
