With a facility that might be the envy of many colleges and universities and the equal to many professional venues across the area, the District Five fine arts community is looking forward to new possibilities for their programs as the potential for their recently opened fine arts center at Byrnes High School is being contemplated.
During a recent conversation about the possibilities now made closer to reality by the fine arts center, Byrnes Choral Director Rusty Keelser and members of his most advanced choral class, the Byrnes Singers, talked about their hopes for their program and what might be in store thanks to the new venue.
The students were enthusiastic about what the new fine arts center represents, especially in a school district and at a school where people have traditionally thought of athletics as the top priority. Seeing the district’s resources put into a state-of-the-art performing arts center is a powerful assurance that the fine arts will continue to have strong support in District Five.
Junior Vanessa Ugochukwu said that a lot of times fine arts are the first thing to be cut and that by building the new center district Five is saying they will support the arts no matter what other schools and school districts may do.
