A partnership between the Spartanburg Parks Commission and multiple agencies and organizations to promote awareness of water resource issues came together this past Saturday at Lyman Lake in the “Discover Your Watershed” day of fun and activities.
SPC spokeswoman Nisha Patel said the event was a huge success and drew more than 250 visitors to enjoy things like free kayaking and guided lake tours, a jump castle and slides for the younger kids and educational displays from organizations like Upstate Forever, Clemson Cooperative Extension and Spartanburg County.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without some great organizations partnering with us – SPACE, Tyger River Foundation, Spartanburg County, SJWD, Watershed Ecology Center, Clemson Extension, Upstate Forever, Sustainable Spartanburg, SPATS, Foothills Resource Conservation and Development Council, Natural Resources Conservation Services, and Spartanburg Soil and Water Conservation District,” Patel said. “We hope to continue having this event in the future.”

One of the offerings at the Spartanburg Parks Commission’s “Know Your Watershed Day” on Saturday that was enthusiastically embraced by dozens was the chance to tour Lyman Lake by kayak. Guided tours were available, but many of the more than 250 visitors leisurely paddled around the lake on a gorgeous Easter weekend afternoon.
