Miss Duncan-Lyman-Wellford 2010 Mary Catherine Pitts is competing this week for the Miss South Carolina title in Columbia. The 2007 Byrnes graduate would like to raise awareness of mental health issues if crowned.
After weeks of preparation and eager anticipation, Miss Duncan-Lyman-Wellford 2010 Mary Catherine Pitts is set to compete this week in the Miss South Carolina pageant in Columbia.
A 2007 Byrnes High graduate and Furman University junior majoring in music, Pitts says she’s excited about the pageant and the opportunity being crowned represents.
“I’m excited,” she says. “No matter what happens this week, I think I’ll definitely be glad I did it.”
She says of her experience as Miss DLW that she has learned a great deal about herself and has particularly enjoyed the chance to speak to students in the schools she attended growing up in this area.
