James F. Byrnes High School and District Five Schools of Spartanburg County are deeply saddened about the loss of one of our students. Zion Faith Mills lost her life on Friday, October 16, 2009. The thoughts and prayers of our District Five family are extended to the Mills family as they cope with this challenging situation.
On Monday, October 19, the Byrnes High School administration had plans and procedures in place to assist any students, staff, or friends who might be in need. Counselors from Byrnes were joined by those from other schools in District Five and other districts in Spartanburg County offered their assistance as needed. Members of the local faith community were made aware of the situation and were on call should their services be required at the school. Jeff Rogers, principal of Byrnes, made the student body aware of the situation and assured them that any help they needed would be available.
The District Five family will continue to use all possible resources to assist our students and staff during this difficult time.
