“Many, many families will be able to receive help during their times of crisis due to this loving generosity.”
– Lyn Turner,
District Five Family
Ministries Coordinator
On Sunday, October 25, District Five Family Ministries held a Community Caring Sing at Lyman Town Hall in an effort to support citizens in the District Five Community. Several local churches had their choirs collaborate in producing the program. Churches including Duncan First Baptist, Mayfield Chapel, New Hope Baptist, and Lyman First Baptist also graciously collected a love offering during their Sunday morning services which was then presented to Lyn Turner, District Five Family Ministries Coordinator, during the program. This donation will help provide emergency assistance to those in the District 5 area, including assistance with heating costs, medications, utility bills and other needs in times of crisis.
When asked about receiving the love offering, Ms. Turner said, “It is just a fantastic thing to have the support of these wonderful church families for so many years. As cold weather and the holidays are approaching, I can’t tell you how much this donation means to us. Many, many families will be able to receive help during their times of crisis due to this loving generosity.”
The event began with a welcome by Representative Rita Allison and was followed by a time of singing praises for the many blessings District Five Family Ministries has already received from the community. Voices of the choirs joined together with those of spectators to sing hymns such as “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” There was also a time of special music, with soloists Mattie Jones, De Scott, and Minister Terrance Phillips offering songs of praise and gratitude.
To culminate the service, a proclamation was signed by representatives of the towns of Duncan, Wellford and Lyman. This proclamation declares that in the future, the last Sunday in the month of October is now to be District Five Family Ministries Caring Sunday. A love offering will be collected and plans are being made for a Community Sing to be held on this day each year to honor the efforts of District Five Family Ministries, all it does, and all it can do for the community.
